Good evening! Today I will tell you the story of our foster child, Deontrey. I am sure many of you have already seen him, but some of you don't know the whole story. Well, here goes!
A couple of years ago my parents started the course of becoming licensed foster parents. They attended a few courses, had to skip a few, and never really got the chance to finish the homework. The notebook of, well, everything, homework and stuff, is more than 3 inches thick. So there was a LOT of homework and it was all very discouraging to have to try to catch up on everything. Well, they didn't finish and never thought about it for the next 2 years. Well, at about the beginning of this year the foster program, 4-Kids, called my parents about more classes to try to become licensed again. Now a friend had already gone through everything with the same progam and had 2 foster children, so they were able to encourage my parents and give them advice. So this time my mom was able to actually finish the homework. All 2 inches thick of it. Finally that was over, and we would be able to get a foster child soon. NOT. Now instead of homework we had paperwork to fill out and faxing back and forth to do. We also had to get saftey things to add to the house, like locks to the cuboards and a life saver for the pool. It took so long, but we (my parents at least) were yet to be discouraged. Well, that was all. Yes, ALL, was FINALLY over about a month ago. All we had to do was sit and wait for the call. Well, not but a week later we got "The Call". A little 1 year old, boy who turned 2 on November 5, almost a week after he came to live with us. We weren't really supposed to get anyone till after our trip to N.C., but, oh well!!!! At first he was VERY quiet, normal. The next day though he loosened up a little. Now he is sooooooooooooooooooooo adorable. He is happier (and louder) then he has ever been. Even people who have seen him before he came to us say he looks like the happiesst child on earth. I am so glad that we continued on with this so we can help children who need a family and a home.
His favorite words are, "Hey", "No", and he learned, "Up", "Down", "Shoe", "Juice".
He will be leaving us soon to live with his father. : ( We will miss him terribly. But I hope he will remember us, and that he will be happy.
I thank God everyday that he has kept Deontrey safe and that he has blessed us with the ability to take care of and help his little children.
I will miss you, Deontrey! Luv Ya!

Hi Amber, your blog is terrific!!! It took me a little while to figure out how to sign up but I didn't give up. I found your blog about Deontrey very touching and inspiring. I look forward to all your future entries !!!!!
God Bless......I love U
I saw him at church, he seems like a really sweet little boy.
Hi, Amber. What happened to moment by moment 24/7? Hmmm....... I'm waiting for a new post. You have a funny perspective on things...maybe even dramatic. ;-) So I like to read your posts to make me laugh. I know you would've made our adventure in finding a Christmas tree really funny...or decorating the Christmas tree (after a week of the tree waiting to be decorated).
I know there is a deep, thoughtful side to you too. You could write about our field trip to the Holocaust Memorial.
Tell us about your happiest memory, or your saddest memory. Tell us about your goals or dreams.
Oh, and Deontray is leaving us on Monday, December 15th. He will be going to live with his daddy. I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive about being a foster mom...in the same way I have been about other things that have been a first in my life. But I am so glad that we went through with this. Deontray is a wonderful, sweet little boy. I wanted to make him feel loved, but he made me feel loved. I thank God for blessing us once again. I know God has a special plan for Deontray and feel we will some day meet again.
Ok, this is long enough...I'll have to start my own blog....LOL.
